Carol Rhea Caughman, aged 67, of Atlanta, GA, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, after facing a brief illness. She was born in Lexington, SC on August 25, 1956 to the loving embrace of Hampton S. and Betty Caughman, both of whom she now rejoins in peace.
A woman of profound compassion and dedication, Carol’s journey was marked by a commitment to caring for others. Following her graduation from high school, she ventured to Atlanta, GA, where she pursued her passion for healing at Emory University. There, she earned her degree in Nursing and was later employed by Emory University Hospital, where she served as a registered nurse with distinction for many years.
Despite her bustling life with Connor’s childhood in Atlanta, Carol’s heart remained tethered to her roots in Lexington, SC. Whether she was reuniting with family or relaxing at the lake, she found immense joy in these cherished moments. Known for her selfless nature and boundless love, Carol was always quick to prioritize the well-being of others above her own, a testament to her character and spirit.
Carol is survived by her son, Connor Caughman Hild; brother, Hampton S. Caughman, Jr. and his wife, Jane; niece, Lisa Driskell and her husband, Joey, and their family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her nephew, Spc. Thomas Caughman.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at St. David Lutheran Church Cemetery, 132 St. Davids Church Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. Visitation will follow at Tom’s Den, 5062 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
