LEXINGTON - Caroline was born in Columbia as the only child of middle-aged parents who idolized her. She attended public schools, graduated from University High School and attended Converse College in Spartanburg. She was a Columbia debutante.
Caroline met, fell in love with and married a handsome young soldier from Potsdam, New York, in training at Fort Jackson after the outbreak of WWII. Married to an officer in the US Army, Caroline had the opportunity to travel the world, visiting such places as Italy, Austria, Greece, Turkey, Yugoslavia, Germany, France, the Caribbean, the Hawaiian Islands, China and many locations in the US. She was very proud of being able to stand on the Great Wall of China.
Caroline had many interests included but not limited to Town Theater, Huguenot Society, Shepard Center of Columbia, Calvert-Brodie Dance School and their annual performances and South Caroliniana Library on the Horse Shoe at USC. She participated in activities at her churches at St. John's on Wheat St. and later at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. She particularly enjoyed helping with the Trinity Bazaar.
For many years Caroline wrote weekly column that appeared in The Columbia Star. She previously had written for various newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations in the Midlands and elsewhere.
Caroline was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Keith and Carolina Guerry Legare, and her son, Jeffrey Peter Judson, as well as her former husband, Major Paul F. Judson, US Army (retired). Surviving family members include her son, Paul F. “Rickie” Judson (Mary Ellen) of Lexington, five grandchildren, Keith Legare Judson of Columbia, Debbie Judson Davidson (Michael) of Lexington and Rick Judson, MD (Tonya) of Birmingham, AL. Caroline is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Jarrett Legare Judson of Ft. Thomas, KY, Marlena Almeida Bryon of Jupiter, FL, Christina Oswald of Columbia, SC Connor Judson .and Abigail Judson both of Birmingham, AL. Caroline was also blessed with one great-great-grandson Christopher Oswald of Leesville. Also surviving Caroline are a host of loving cousins from the Legare, Judson and Cox families, as well as many dear and faithful friends.
The Judson family sincerely thanks Caroline's caregivers and medical personnel for their considerate and loving care over the past years. They are truly appreciated.
A memorial service is scheduled for noon on Saturday, April 28, 2018, in Kenan Chapel at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter St. the Reverend Tina Lockett will conduct the service. Following the service a reception will be held in Stirling Hall adjacent to the chapel. Caroline’s cremains will be interred at a later time. Caughman Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
