CHAPIN - Carrington “Bernie” Hoefer passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020 at the age of 81. He was born on May 1, 1939 in Charleston, SC, to the late Lindner Charles Hoefer and Williametta Lincoln Hoefer. Due to Covid-19, a celebration of life will be held later.
Bernie and his siblings had fond memories growing up in McClellanville, SC, before moving to Columbia. Bernie was educated at Eau Claire High and the University of South Carolina. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.
His career as a Safety Engineer included employment at CNA, Great American and Stone Container. He loved fishing, gardening, and boating. He was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Chapin, SC.
He was blessed with three children, Donna H. Peeler (Bob) of Lexington, Peter C. Hoefer of Atlanta, GA, Tiffany Hoefer (Michael Goricki) of Lexington and three grandchildren, Brandi, Finley and Hunter. Bernie was predeceased by his brother, Lindner Charles Hoefer, Jr. He is survived by his sister, Jacqueline “Jackie” Hoefer Duckworth of Chapin and brother, William Augustus “Augie” Hoefer (Teresa) of Sandy Run. He dearly loved his nieces and nephew, Debbie, Peter, Leslie, Angie and Candice. A special thanks to loyal friends, Gerry Byars, Bob Morse, and the staff at Carolina Gardens of Lexington, especially Erica Williams.
