Cecil Walker DuPree, Jr., 66, of Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, passed away at home on May 31, 2025, after a courageous 20-month battle with DLBCL non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Born on January 17, 1959, in Milton, Florida, Cecil was formerly a longtime resident of West Columbia, SC.
A graduate of Lexington High School (Class of 1977), Cecil completed his electrical apprenticeship and went on to build a successful career as a commercial electrician and business owner. As the co-founder of Southern Electric, Inc., he was known for his integrity, the pride he took in every job, and his commitment to doing things the right way.
To know Cecil was to know a man of strength, loyalty, and deep faith. He loved God, his wife Karen, and his family with his whole heart. “Cherished” and “beloved” barely scratch the surface of how deeply he was loved in return by his wife. Beneath his tough exterior was a big heart—and a soft spot for animals, especially cats and the family’s heart-stealing Cavapoo, Luna.
Cecil found joy in the simple things, often with toes in the sand and a book in hand. He loved golf but also enjoyed listening to music, and watching birds and wildlife from his back porch in Pawley’s Island. He was a member of Pawley’s Island Community Church and The Reserve Golf Club, where his dry wit, quick comebacks, and famous “retirement hair” made him a favorite both on and off the course.
He will be most remembered for his sense of humor, strong convictions, and the way he showed up for the people he loved. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Cecil was the steady center of his family and a man whose quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen West DuPree; son, Timothy Walker DuPree (Courtney); and his four grandchildren: Carson, Bella, Callie, and Landon. He also leaves behind his mother, Eva Jean Meadows DuPree; father, Cecil Walker DuPree, Sr.; and brother, Gregory DuPree (Deborah).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation (https://lymphoma.org), honoring Cecil’s brave fight and the hope for a cure.
Cecil lived a life rooted in love, faith, and resilience, and those who knew him will carry his memory with them always.
A visitation for Cecil will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM. Entombment will take place after the service at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
