It is with deep sadness that we announce that Charlton Keith Harsey, known to everyone as Keith, 70, of West Columbia passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Friday, October 23, 2026. Born in Richland County on November 23, 1955, he was the second born son to the late Eugene Harsey and Linda Harsey of West Columbia, South Carolina.
He was a graduate of Airport High School and lifetime resident of West Columbia. Keith met the love of his life, Kathy, at a young age. The two were friends first and then quickly married in February 1974. Together they built a home full of love and laughter for their three children. Much to their children’s embarrassment, they held hands and flirted like they hadn’t been married for 52 years.
Keith began his 55-year career in the grocery business at the young age of 15. He was an extremely hard worker and instilled that in his three children. While he worked long hours, Saturday mornings were for cartoons and a huge breakfast prepared by him which was his favorite meal of the day.
His greatest loves, in addition to his wife, were his children and grandchildren. He took advantage of every opportunity to spend time with his family. He had a green thumb and enjoyed a summer tradition of planting a garden with his grandkids. Keith loved cooking for his family and friends and hosting all family holidays. He also enjoyed taking family beach trips, traveling around the country, and recently celebrated his 70th birthday with a trip to Ireland.
Keith is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Harsey; sons, Kevin Harsey (Stephanie) of Lexington, Kris Harsey of Cayce, and his daughter, Katie Hoey (Adam) of Lexington; grandchildren, Jordon Brincko (John), Sofia Harsey, Nell Hoey, Clive Hoey, and Ian Harsey; sister, Gail Crouch; father-in-law, Edward Lynch; and sisters-in-law, Darlene Harsey, Rhonda Ellis, and Eydie Shumpert (Bert) and many special and loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Steve Harsey; sister, Terri Spires; mother-in-law, Frances Lynch; and brother-in-law, David Crouch.
The funeral service will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel, 503 N Lake Drive, Lexington, SC on Thursday, October 29th, 2026 at 12:00 p.m., with burial following at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC.
The family will receive friends at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Lexington Chapel from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Keith’s memory to the Prisma Health Children’s Hospital - Midlands or to the American Cancer Society. The family also wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many ICU doctors and nurses who provided exceptional care to him and to us at Lexington Medical Center.
