WEST COLUMBIA - Funeral services for Curtis Carroll Turkett, 95, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Presbyterian Community Chapel, 700 Davega Dr., Lexington, S.C. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Interment will be in Woodridge Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Communities of S.C., 2817 Ashland Rd., Columbia, S.C. 29210 or to a charity of one’s choice.
Mr. Turkett was born August 4, 1922 in Wallaceville, SC and passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018. He was the son of the late Joseph Elias and Mattie Pearl Turkett. Mr. Turkett grew up in Fairfield County. He has been a resident of West Columbia, SC for over 55 years. Mr.Turkett was a member of Eau Claire Masonic Lodge No. 344. He was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church where he loved teaching Sunday school, serving as a Deacon, and singing with the “Silver Saint Singers”.
He worked at the Savannah River Site, the Carolinas Virginia Test Reactor, and in the fossil and nuclear power industry. He retired from SCE&G in 1983. Curtis enjoyed traveling all over the United States with his wife and camping friends. He also loved golfing with his buddies. He had a passion for gardening and his tomatoes, blueberries, and figs were enjoyed by his children, neighbors, and friends.
He is survived by sons William H. Turkett, Sr. (Mary) of Lexington, SC, and Ronald C. Turkett (Lisa) of West Columbia, SC; daughter, Carol T. Grigsby (Ernie) of Lawrenceburg, IN; sisters, Caroline T. Townsend, Frances T. Riley, and Dessa T. Beasley; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Curtis was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Marjorie B. Turkett; brothers William P. Turkett and Joseph R. Turkett and sister Lillian T. Coward.
The family expresses a special thank you to his family of caregivers in Jasmine Place and Cassels Health Care Center at the Presbyterian Community.
