

Deborah K. Childers was born in Biloxi, Mississippi. Her father's Air Force career took her and the family to many places including Guam, and Okinawa, eventually they settled in the little Township of Chesapeake, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ruble R. and Barbara Brooks. She leaves her husband of 45 years, John Childers; her son, Johnny and daughter-in-law, Katie Childers; 4 brothers, Kevin, Donnie, Ronnie, and Mike Brooks; as well as many nieces and nephews she was so proud of.
Deborah graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1977, and spent the next 18 years working on the Children's Wing while also finishing up her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Marshall University. After moving to South Carolina, she worked for Children's Hospital in Columbia, S.C., and did so for the next 21 years while also completing her master’s degrees in nursing and education at Phoenix University. Deborah finished her work heading up Nurse Education for Palmetto Health. Throughout her nursing career, Deborah healed and brightened as many lives as there are stars in the night sky.
Debbie was a Christian since childhood. She enjoyed Bible Study, singing in the choir, and fed on the fellowship of the churches she attended.
A memorial service for Deborah will be held Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Red Bank United Methodist Church, 2909 Old Barnwell Road, Lexington, South Carolina 29073.
