In the grand tradition of craftsmen through time immemorial, Mical was passionate about working with wood, stone, and steel to create things that would be as enduring and useful as they were functional and captivating.
Born during the twilight of 1948, he emerged into a world suffering timeless troubles, and despite adversity, he was determined to make the world a better place. He read and studied relentlessly to improve his understanding of the Bible and the word of God. Mical also studied psychology and human behavior as he was determined to better understand the hearts and minds of his fellow man. Not to dominate, but to nurture and heal those he met who hungered for more.
In his children and grandchildren, we see reflections of the man - those of love, kindness, patience, determination, and faith in God. Mical walked through the chapters of his life, experiencing the bonds of marriage and the hard lessons of divorce, but his love of family never wavered or weakened.
A theologian and scholar, Mical's writings echo the Bible's lesser known but profoundly deep passages. His writings and poetry are a tapestry, intricately woven with threads of biblical wisdom and personal insights.
As a carpenter and roofer, Mical embodied the teachings of Christ, the carpenter from Nazareth. Every beam he placed, and every nail he struck spoke of his commitment to the craft and the consequence. Mical loved to stand back after finishing a job and look with deep satisfaction at the product of his time and his labor. He is likely doing the same thing now, standing back, looking at his life, and judging the overall quality of it.
Though his life met an untimely end, it reminds us of the fragility of our earthly existence and the eternal hope that lies beyond. In the wise words from the book of Ecclesiastes 3:1-2, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die..."
Mical is survived by four sons, Jeffry Sewell, Eric Sewell, Jared Sewell, Jesse Sewell, and two daughters, Darla Sewell, and Audra Sewell.
A memorial service for Mical will be held Sunday, August 13, 2023, at 4:00 PM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, South Carolina 29072, followed by a visitation.
In Mical's name, we remember not just the man but a legacy of faith, love, and eternal wisdom.
