Derrel Eugene Bickley, 91, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away on September 16, 2026. Born June 15, 1935, Derrel lived a life marked by steady devotion to those he loved and a work ethic that never sought attention, only purpose.
Derrel graduated from Brookland Cayce High School, carrying forward the values of perseverance and responsibility that would shape the years to come. He served in the U.S. Army, and later worked as a dock worker, loading and unloading trucks—honest labor that reflected the dependable, hard-working spirit for which he was known.
He was the son of the late Wilma McCarty and Ernest Eugene Bickley. Derrel is survived by his wife, Lenora Annette Dooley Bickley, and his son, Gene Bickley (Donna). In his home and family, Derrel’s loyalty and love were constant—expressed not in grand gestures, but in presence, commitment, and care.
In his younger years, Derrel found enjoyment in fishing, camping, and hunting, and later took comfort in the simple rhythms of watching TV. He was a member of the Lexington Wildlife Club, a place he enjoyed not only for shared interests but also for the fellowship it offered. He was also a member of Calvary Community Church in West Columbia, SC, where faith and community were part of his life.
Visitation will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072, on September 18, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree Street, West Columbia, SC 29170.
