

LEXINGTON – Don Calvin Riley, Sr., 79, of Lexington, SC passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him on Wednesday, November 4, 2015. He was born in Lexington and grew up in Leesville, SC the son of the late John Derrick and Ruth Lindler Riley.
Don served in the United States Air Force and later in the United States National Guard. Most knew him through his Landscaping and Heavy Grading business “Riley Construction” for 20 years; where he often “hung upside down” in a backhoe moving large amounts of earth creatively. There was nothing he could not achieve, including piloting a plane to as far as Point Barrow, Alaska with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ethel Harman Riley of Lexington; son, D. Calvin Riley, Jr. DDS. (Becky) of Conway, SC; daughter, Suzanne Riley Whyte of Lexington; grandchildren, Jessica, John and Josh Riley; brother, John David (Kaye) of Lexington; two sisters, Edith Virginia Wessinger (James Franklin) and Alice Ruth Harmon (Buddy) of Chapin; and two sister-in-laws, Louise and Pat and his beloved fur baby “Buck” and tons of family. He is preceded in death by his brothers, James Lafayette and Gene Ralph.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his church, Zion Lutheran Building Fund, 226 Corley Mill Rd. Lexington, SC 29072.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with visitation in the family Life Center.
