Donald Boyer

Donald was a chairman for the Board of Trustees at Chapin United Methodist Church for 9 years. He was an honorary member of the Chapin Garden Club. He was also a member of the Timberlake Country Club and the Sertoma Club. He was a really good athlete and was awarded All City for Football. After graduating from Grand Rapids Central High School, he attended and graduated from Grand Rapids Junior College. He studied at Western University and graduated in in 1969. He taught at Jenison High School and coached the Junior Varsity football team. He then taught at Grand Rapids Junior College, was a Department Head, and after earning his PhD from Michigan State University, became the Vice President/Provost, a position he held until retirement in 2003.

He and his wife, Susan then relocated to Chapin, SC to be closer to their sons and new grandson. After he remodeled their home on Lake Murray, he was bored, so he got a contractor’s license. He owned DRB Home Remodeling. He was very successful at that profession. When they were tired of taking care of the property, they moved to an apartment at LOWMAN Home. Don suffered from Alzheimer’s and was moved to Memory Care in 2021. He fell and broke his hip and was moved to Skilled Care, where he passed.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susan K. Boyer; sons, Roger M. Boyer and Steven S. Boyer (Erinn); grandsons, Mason S.P. Boyer and Maxwell H. Boyer; and his brother, John Barry Boyer (Trish).

A memorial service for Donald will be held at 2:00 PM on September 23, 2023 at Chapin Community Christian Church, 415 Lexington Avenue, Chapin, SC, 29036 with a visitation immediately following the service.
