
Donald L. Edmiston, age 87, died April 6, 2018 at Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia. Mr. Edmiston is survived by a wife, Shirley Edmiston and two children, Marc L. Edmiston and Karen Edmiston Higgins (Gary). He also leaves behind two granddaughters, Ashley Michele Edmiston and Leighton Jennings Higgins. Mr. Edmiston was born on May 3, 1930 in Washington, Indiana to Glen Charles Edmiston and Marjoria Naffzigger Edmiston. He was the youngest of five with one brother and four sisters. In 1948, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country proudly for over twenty years. Mr. Edmiston served multiple tours in both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. During his military service, he received multiple decorations and awards to include the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean and Vietnam Service Medal, to name but a few. He received an honorable discharge with the rank of Master Sergeant in 1968 with full honors at which time, he relocated to Columbia, South Carolina with his family. Mr. Edmiston was predeceased by his first wife of fifty-three years, Betty Jean Brown Edmiston, a son, Craig Lee Edmiston who died in infancy.
