COLUMBIA – A memorial service for Donald P. Thacker, 85, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with Rev. Jenny Barrington officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to an organization of one’s choice.
Mr. Thacker was born September 3, 1931 in Danville, KY and passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. He was the son of the late Phillip Oliver Thacker and Lilla Lawson Thacker. He was employed as Chief of Social Worker Services at the Dorn VA Hospital. Mr. Thacker was a board member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia, the SC Gerontological Society, the SC Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers and SC Memorial Society/AARP. He was also a part-time adjunct professor at the USC College of Social Work.
Mr. Thacker is survived by his wife, Ruth G. Thacker of Columbia; son, Phillip Scott Thacker of Columbia; daughter, Molly Thacker McGuire of Brentwood, TN; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sara Thacker Hancock.
