COLUMBIA - After a life filled with God’s blessings, Donna Taylor Mayes, 70, of Columbia, went home to be with her Lord and precious husband, Vernon L. Mayes Jr., on Thursday, March 21, 2019. She was born in Winnsboro, SC, on January 15, 1949 to the late Willie E. Taylor and Bertha Davis Taylor. Donna enjoyed growing up in Winnsboro and married her high school sweetheart, Vern Mayes, on September 6, 1969. They were blessed with 2 precious sons, Brandon and Blake, and 3 granddaughters, Rylee, Lawson, and Baylor. God called Vern home on August 6, 2015. How blessed they were to share 46 years and 11 months together. Donna loved her family, her church, her friends and most of all – her Lord. She loved the beach, her Bunco friends, her Sunday School Class, and spending time with her family. “To my children and grandchildren – you are my most precious gifts! Please live your life to honor God!” Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at St. Andrews Baptist Church with interment at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Donna is survived by her beloved sons, Brandon Lee Mayes (Ginger Hipkins) and Blake Aaron Mayes (Ann); precious grandchildren, Rylee Marie Mayes, Lawson Amber Mayes, Baylor Leigh Mayes, Kayleigh Wadsworth; sister, Janice T. Groomes and Kit T. Burroughs; brother, Steve D. Taylor (Sandi); and so many precious nieces, nephews and a host of loving friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Vernon L. Mayes, Jr.; a brother, Jerry T. Taylor and sister, Glen T. Sanders. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Andrews Baptist Church. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
