Donna Hadwin Mazloom passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024 in Lexington, S.C. Born in Columbia, SC on November 8, 1953, Donna graduated from Dreher High School in 1971. Shortly after graduation, Donna began working at Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company. She made a career at Colonial Life, but, more importantly, she made many lifelong friends. Donna retired after more than 35 years of service, mainly in Claims and Compliance. Her attention to detail was unmatched, and she left an indelible mark on the people who worked with her over her many years at Colonial.
Everyone who got to know Donna for more than a few minutes learned quickly that she was a devoted advocate for animals. Her passion for the welfare of all animals, big and small, was untiring and inspiring. Donna supported countless animal advocacy programs in tangible ways. She funded the purchase of bullet-proof vests for police dogs, adopted an abused Arabian horse, donated to the Small Animal Care Course at Lexington High School, and contributed significant financial support to local shelters and numerous other animal advocacy programs. Donna even paid for needed surgeries and treatments when a pet’s owner - oftentimes people she didn’t even know - couldn’t afford the cost. She was a dynamic supporter of the Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and made the decision to continue that financial support beyond her life. Donna's biggest passion and desire in life was to put an end to animal cruelty and neglect. Please help those of us who loved her to carry her legacy forward.
Donna Mazloom was preceded in death by her loving mother, Serena Koester Hadwin. She is survived by countless friends and her beloved cat, Buttercup, who will be cared for by a dear friend.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, Columbia SC 29209. There will be a true Celebration of Donna’s life at a later date. Please check social media for details.
