

Edward Leon Corley, 92, passed away on July 29, 2025. He was born on May 27, 1933, in Lexington, SC to Joseph Leon Corley and Bessie Lee (Mathias) Corley. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served in many capacities.
Ed was a member of Lexington High School class of 1951 and graduated from Clemson College in 1955, where he was in ROTC. Following Clemson, he completed Infantry Officers training at Fort Benning and advanced to Captain in the Army Reserves.
Ed was a real estate appraiser for 40 years. A career highlight was his position as the first Assessor in Lexington County, an accomplishment of which he was most proud.
Throughout his career, he was a member and served as president of the following organizations: South Carolina Association of Assessing Officials, South Carolina Chapter of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, and Lexington County Lions Club.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Jo (Kleckley); son, Douglas and daughter-in-law, Kris Somers of Colorado; son, Reginald “Reggie” and daughter-in-law, Heather of Lexington; two grandchildren, Brandon and Lauren; and sisters, Melba C. Ivey and Linda K. Hendrix (Walter).
Ed loved his church, family, and friends and cherished the many gifts God gave him. He also loved animals, especially his beloved draft horses.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, followed by visitation and fellowship in the church’s Family Life Center.
