Edward William Hartung, Jr.

LEESVILLE - Edward William Hartung Jr., 62, of Leesville, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in a horrific traffic accident on HWY 378 just a few miles from his home. Ed retired on March 1st and was enjoying life, his family and his mission to serve our Lord and Savior. He was a quiet witness and had a heart for helping others. Survivors are his wife, Charlotte Ann (Glenn); his mother, Marynetta Dike Hartung; son, Jeffrey Edward Hartung and his wife, Cynthia; daughter, Karin Marie Bello and her husband, Brian; beloved grandchildren, Holly, Jeffrey, Hunter and Susan Hartung; Benjamin and Samuel Bello; sister, Mary Elizabeth Larsen and brother-in-law, Bruce Larsen; niece, Paula Schwinn and nephew, Chris Larsen. Ed was preceded in death by daughter, Jennifer Ann Hartung and father, Edward William Hartung Sr. Ed was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He will be greatly missed. He was a man of faith and loved his Lord and he was so very proud of his family. He grew up in St. Paul, MN and was a Harding High graduate. He was always a ‘working man’ – he retired from Whirlpool Corporation after 30 years and then went on to work for IC Bus (Navistar International) for 12 more years. So many plans – so much joy in his life. Through many years of working he lived in several places and created wonderful memories and a host of friends and church families throughout the country. All will miss him. Ed had a heart for Jesus and became involved with the Kirk Karpenters in Tulsa, OK – he brought this passion with him when moving to Lexington, SC and he was leading a wheel chair ministry at Mt. Horeb UMC with a partnership with EmmanuWheel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to this ministry: EmmanuWheel, 566 Rawl Rd., Lexington, SC 29072 A memorial service to celebrate Ed will be held on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Horeb UMC, Lexington, SC with a reception and lunch following. Praises to the Lord for this precious life. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Char & Family -
I'll always fondly remember growing up on Mayfair Ct. in White Bear Lake with your family. You were both good friends of my parents and our family. I can picture Ed sitting in the driveway talking to my Dad and the other neighbors. I learned much about hard work and integrity from Ed - traits that still benefit me today. I am a better man for knowing Ed and your family. My family's thoughts are with you at this time. We know Ed is with Jen and my parents now in heaven....until we see them all again

Dear Charlotte and Family, Aunt Detta and Mary,
You are in our Prayers. Ed, Jr. was like a big brother to me and my two older brothers, growing up on the East Side of St. Paul years ago. Later in life I met others who knew Ed Jr, and his Father, from the Whirlpool plant in St. Paul who spoke highly of them. Ed was a great cousin, a hardworking man, and no doubt a great family man, and clearly a man of Strong Faith. God Bless you and your families.
Warm Regards, Jim Dike and Family
