
Edward Allen Stevens, 73, of Batesburg, South Carolina passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 8, 2022 at his home. Allen and his wife of 51 years, Katherine Wrabell Stevens, retired to Lake Murray Estates in 2009 after living and working in Northern Virginia his entire career. Allen was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles V. Stevens and Mary E. Stevens on May 10, 1948. Allen has one daughter, Brandy Stevens Phelps and two grandchildren, Kaleigh Phelps and Jacob Phelps of Bealeton, Virginia.
Allen is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Brandy; grandchildren, Kaleigh and Jacob; his brothers, Charles V. Stevens Jr. and Kenneth L. Stevens.
Allen joined the United States Army in the late 1960s, serving as a Military Police officer at Davidson Army Airfield on Fort Belvoir, Virginia. After completing his military service, Allen joined the Fairfax County Police Department in 1971, progressing through the ranks from patrol officer to the rank of Major prior to retirement in 1994. He served in various assignments along the way including patrol, criminal investigations, personnel and special operations.
Upon retirement, Allen joined the Boeing Company as a mid-level manager supervising security services for a U.S. Government customer, the National Reconnaissance Office, and was subsequently promoted to a position overseeing facility engineering, maintenance and operations. He retired from Boeing just prior to moving to Lake Murray.
Upon relocating to South Carolina, he quickly became acquainted with many local residents through church and volunteer activities. Allen was a reserve deputy with the Saluda County Sheriff’s Department for approximately two years, and then became very active in the Saluda County Water and Sewer Authority, serving as the Chairman at the time of his death. Allen was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Mother Teresa Assembly at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 Augusta Highway, Lexington, South Carolina. Interment will be a date to be determined at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to (MAESSR) Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue, PO Box 607, Goochland, VA 23063, an organization that Allen and Kathy have volunteered with for the past 10 years.
