Elaine M. Troficanto was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 14, 1945. She was the oldest of three children born to Sylvester George Troficanto and Olivia Koncewicz Troficanto. Elaine passed away in the early morning hours of December 13, 2023. She had been a courageous cancer survivor since 2007.
Elaine spent her childhood in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania, and completed high school at Sacred Heart, where she formed life-long friendships. Upon graduation, she entered a near thirty-year career in Administration with Sears. She transferred to southern Florida in 1979, continuing as an Administrative Assistant with Sears. Her parents had also re-located to Deerfield Beach, Florida—Elaine was involved in their care and remained their main support as they aged. In the early 1990’s, she declined an offer for a transfer with Sears to Atlanta, Georgia. Instead, she transferred to Chapin, S.C. in 1993 and secured a position with Dillard’s for several years. After the death of her mother in 2002, her father joined her in Chapin. She was the primary caregiver for her father until his death in 2012. She lived independently in Chapin until her recent health decline.
Elaine loved to travel, having visited numerous European countries with her good friend, Roslyn. She was a fierce advocate for animals, generously supporting several animal rescue and advocacy groups. Although she loved all domestic animals, she was clearly a cat lover, having adopted five cats at different times over her lifetime.
Elaine was a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt. She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, David. She is survived by her remaining brother, George (Nancy) Troficanto of Pooler, Georgia ; nieces, Kristen (Nick) Johnston of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and Sara Troficanto (Nick Westemeyer) of Lyndhurst, New Jersey; and nephews, Richard Troficanto (Casey) of Ballentine, S.C. and Ryan Troficanto of Columbia, S.C. She was devoted to their children, her great-nieces and nephews: Ava, Miles, Ella, Asher and Rowan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Georgia Troficanto of Chapin, S.C. and best friend, Marie Banachoski, of Pittsburgh.
Elaine will be interred with her parents in St. Mary Cemetery in Pittsburgh. Per her request, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to an animal rescue organization of your choice.
