I remember visiting Grandma so many times in my younger years and sitting around the dining table drinking tea for hours.   Just listening to each other talk about life.  Generally happy, sometimes sad, and always interesting.

Dinners at the restaurant were always amazing and we would dress up to go see Grandpa and the family.  It felt so glamorous to eat at the Lexington Arms— Steak Diane, Seafood Alfredo and Bananas Foster!  Don’t forget the rolls!  

My favorite memory was staying with Grandma one summer, and hanging out with one of my little toddler cousins.  I was at least 10 years older.   This little fellow decided to jump up from a diaper change and run around the house without pants!  Grandma’s dog, Alexander, chased him around barking his head off and the little one giggling.  Grandma exclaimed, ‘you need to put some pants on before Alexander bites your noodle off!’. Oh we laughed ourselves to tears!

I have to note, she made the best sandwiches and Coq au Vin (among many other things) — food is something that always created a common ground in this family.  My mom and I cherish that deeply.

There is also something so special about all the memories she surrounded herself with— pictures on the wall, sweet knick knacks and art.  She had a very special way of making a house a home.  I remember sharing my home with her for the first time and I practically burst with pride in her praise of my color choices.  Also, her home always had a smell of something soft and clean and spa-like.  I’ll never forget it— walking into her home last year, it was still there.  Always there.  Always fresh.  Always her. 

Grandma, you are loved and missed, and I know you are making your home in your heaven and doing all the good things your body wouldn’t allow you to do any longer on Earth.   I will feel your presence in the sunrise, in the gems and on the wind.  Sending you much love and peace.

Duncan, we are so sorry for your loss. You and Elizabeth created something in Lexington  that has not been equaled before you folks arrived here, and afterwards also. The two of you created for us, and many others, "the place" dine out. We cherish our many times just chatting with you all. May the good Lord bless and keep you and your family. My sincere condolences to all of the family of Mrs. Crowe.   I have been with the family at gatherings or family events over the years, and I know the grief Duncan and the family must be experiencing at this loss.  My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all. I wish I could be at the service this weekend, but since I can't, I'll write some memories here. Grandma was always so put together with such an amazing sense of style! She always smelled so good too, and one time after I visited for a couple of weeks in the summer, she sent a package with her perfume on a scarf. I was instantly back in South Carolina, hanging out with her with the air conditioning cranked up and watching Volcano, Dante's Peak, or the latest Mission Impossible, letting the dogs outside and getting blasted by the humidity. She loved the dogs just as much as she complained about them, which was a lot. She had very creative spelling, but we could always tell what she meant, calling me her "litle butterflie" in almost every card she sent. Thank you for the memories Grandma, and I hope you're resting in peace!

Sincerest condolences to Duncan (Mr Crowe, to me), Sue, David, Charles, Burl, Phillip & all the family - as a young lad, such a huge part of my life during your time in Antigua. I always remember Mrs Crowe lounging on her favourite loveseat (like the classy diva she was..) on the enclosed back porch of your home at Antigua Beach Hotel; or busy rushing around at the hotel, always stylish & never without her large, chic sunglasses! Not sure how she managed it with so many boys around who were always getting into some mischievous adventure or breaking bones, but wonderful memories, nonetheless.. Thinking of you all at this very sad time. Love & hugs to all.
