Ellon was born January 27, 1939 in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late John Earle Sloan and Correne Moore Sloan. She later moved to West Columbia and graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School, where she was head cheerleader and society editor of the student newspaper.
Survivors include daughter, Dana D. Kelly (husband Rhett); granddaughters, Ashley Sloan Lawson and Macey Claire Lawson and step-granddaughters, Caroline Sarah Kelly and Campbell Suzanne Kelly. She is predeceased by former husband, Frank Williams and son, Gene Williams.
In the many jobs and positions she held, Ellon helped change the face of Lexington with her vision, business savvy and hard work. To each new challenge, she brought her love of adventure and willingness to take risks.
She graduated from banking school in Miami and worked at C&S Bank. After moving back to Columbia, she earned her cosmetology license and opened her own salon on Devine Street.
Ellon took her next big step by earning a real estate brokers license and moving to Lexington. In the late 1970s, she founded her own real estate company, Pompey Town Realty, in a historic home on Main Street. She also built and operated the Pompey Town Inn and the Sweet Shop on adjacent property. Later she developed the Woodbridge Crossing neighborhood in Lexington.
The names of the inn and her real estate firm showed Ellon’s love of history: Lexington long ago was called "Pompey Town," after a horse named Pompey, according to local legend.
Outside work, Ellon held many titles including President of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce and President of the Lexington County Arts Association. Arts and music were a big part of her life. She produced 13 musicals at Village Square Theatre in Lexington and starred in many musicals there. Her favorite role: Mae West in a Broadway revue. She also loved to create art and write poetry. She was a phenomenal singer and could always be heard singing a tune.
Ellon loved to spend time with her granddaughters, whom she loved dearly. She always had a story to tell about them. Ellon was a caring person and a giver. Her great joy was to give to others in her family and in the community.
The family would like to thank Abbey Road Hospice and National Health Care of Lexington for their care and support.
Friends and family will be received at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2023, in the fellowship hall at Providence Lutheran Church where Ellon had been a member. Services follow at 3:00 p.m.
