Ernest J Powell

LEXINGTON – A funeral service for Ernest J. Powell, 91, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Powell was born May 15, 1923 in Preble County, Ohio and passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015. He was a son of the late Ernest J. Powell and Glenna Brower Powell. He served our country in the United States Navy. He was a gold medal winning senior athlete who was inducted into three Halls of Fame. He cherished his family and friends and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.

Mr. Powell is survived by his brother, John H. Powell; daughter, Judith D. Gallagher; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Carolyn K. Powell; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 71 years, Winifred L. Powell; a son, Stephen J. Powell; 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

Special thanks are given to his granddaughter, Candace and her family Donald Micheal, Dakota, Stormi, Carolyn, Emeri and especially Jaidyn who enjoyed a priceless bond with her “best buddy Gamps”.
