Mr. Hartley was married to Linda Craps Hartley of Lexington for 61 years. He spent his career self-employed in the automobile industry. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time in his favorite place, the mountains of western North Carolina. He filled the last 17 years caring for and enjoying what he considered God’s greatest blessing- his beloved grandchildren. He was an avid antique collector and dealer, classic car enthusiast, and especially enjoyed the music of Hank Williams, Sr. Fletcher was a member of Pisgah Lutheran Church and often worshiped at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, Fletcher is survived by his daughter, Julie Hartley Wham and her husband, George S. Wham, Jr., and their children: G. Samuel Wham III, Merritt Elizabeth Wham, and Preston Middleton Wham of Lexington. He is also survived by sisters, Ann H. McDaniel and Marie H. Boatwright; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gibson, Paul, and Denzil Hartley; and sister, Lucille H. Quattlebaum.
A private burial at Cedar Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery, Leesville SC will be followed by a public memorial service at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church, 5503 Sunset Blvd, Lexington, SC 29072 on Tuesday, March 5 at 3:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the Thornwell Home for Children, 302 Broad St. Clinton, SC 29325.
