

LEXINGTON - George Leonard Schneider, 86, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with the Reverend Dr. Leon Rawl officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lexington, SC.
Mr. Schneider was born July 18, 1926, in Lexington County and was the son of the late George F. and Eula Roof Schneider. He was a graduate of Lexington High School class of 1943 and attended the University of South Carolina.
George L. served his country during World War II and was stationed at San Diego, CA aboard a Destroyer Escort ship. Upon his return to South Carolina, he entered the University of South Carolina for a time until he decided to begin his career. He worked for a time at a local car dealership and for Southern Bell Telephone Company. He always loved the outdoors and had farming in his blood. He decided to start farming and formed Schneider Produce. He farmed for a time in partnership with his youngest brother, Kenneth and eventually started George L. Schneider Produce which delivered fresh grown vegetables three times a week to various local grocery stores (Bi-Lo, Piggly Wiggly) and open air markets (Bullock’s Garden Fresh). He married the late Linda Harmon Schneider on May 9, 1964. After retiring from the produce business, George L. and Linda were fortunate to travel extensively visiting all 50 states at least once.
George was predeceased by his wife, Linda Harmon Schneider, his brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Wayron Schneider and Kenneth and Barbara Schneider, his brother-in-law, James Brittingham.
Survivors include his children, son, Kirk Schneider and daughter, Wendy Schneider; sister, Evelyn Schneider Brittingham; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ellis and Sara Harmon, Carlisle and Linda Harmon and Clyde and Bonnie Harmon; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends and family from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran church or the charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Internal Medicine, Dr. John Black and Lexington Heart, Dr. Matthew Cantrell for the care of George and also to his caregiver, Cindy Jordan.
