The Lexington community mourns the loss of one of its notable and well-loved residents. On October 20th, 2025, George Woodrow “Trey” Stoudemire III passed away at the age of 55. The sudden and unforeseen nature of his death is met with disbelief and great sorrow. Trey was deeply devoted to his family and friends and will always be remembered as a caring husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, colleague, and friend.
Trey’s trademark was his incredible smile. Known as the life of the party, he brought cheer and laughter to any gathering. Due to his good-nature and jovial personality, strangers quickly became friends. Trey’s generosity and willingness to help others were evident in every aspect of his life. Whether lending a hand to someone in need or sharing words of encouragement, his kindness touched countless lives.
Trey was born in Stuttgart, Germany during his father's military service. Proud of his German roots, he enjoyed Oktoberfest and often made many new friends at these celebrations. Revisiting his birthplace as a young man was one of his most cherished experiences.
Trey’s adventurous spirit led him to be an avid and exceptional hunter and fisherman. His hunting skills were fostered at a young age by his grandfather, Robert Lindler. He became a skilled angler under the guidance of his “Pop,” Woody Stoudemire. One of his most notable experiences was a big game hunting excursion in South Africa.
During his youth, he and his father engaged in various pursuits together, including quail hunting within the state and goose hunting in Maryland. He once traversed a drained pond to successfully snag an eight-pound bass with a net. Additionally, he enjoyed regularly watching and attending NASCAR events.
Married for twenty years, Trey met the love of his life, Phillis, on a blind date. Upon their marriage, Trey became a nurturing stepfather to Jason and Ricky. In 2008, the family was blessed with the birth of their son, Robbie. As a loving family man, Sunday dinners were a regular event that he always looked forward to. Often, he would bake his renowned rum cake to everyone’s delight.
As lovers of the local music scene, Trey and Phillis attended numerous concerts and festivals in the area; usually accompanied by their dear friends Bubba and Monica Cooper. They were quite a foursome. Trey’s love of music began in the Lexington High School chorus and as a performer with the Golden Blues. Few knew he could actually sing and dance!
Trey was employed with Beverage South as a sales representative doing what he loved; visiting his clients who all affectionately knew him as the Red Bull man. He earned salesman of the year twice and won numerous salesman of the month awards.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dale Lindler Stoudemire, his aunt, Ellen Stoudemire, and his brother-in-law, Johnny Stasney. Trey is survived by his loving wife, Phillis Stevens Stoudemire; his son, Robert “Robbie” Woodrow Stoudemire; his stepsons, Jason and Ricky Geddings; his father, George Woodrow Stoudemire, Jr.; his sisters, Amy Stoudemire and Erin Whitehead (Brian); his sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Rodgers (Andrew) and Allyson Stasney; Shirley Amick, who held a special place in his life, and Bubba, whom he considered a brother; as well as numerous grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family offers their sincerest gratitude to all those who reached out in so many ways. Your acts of kindness and prayers offered much comfort and were greatly appreciated.
Trey will be remembered for always being himself. Unlike many who try on different personalities, he never wanted to be anyone but himself. It has been said: “To thine own self be true, and it will follow that thou cannot be false to any Man.” Rest in peace and may you have many more adventures until we meet again.
Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 2 PM - 5 PM at the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel. A private graveside service will take place, and we ask for your understanding and support during this difficult time.
