Gladys S. Henzler

On June 7, 2021, Gladys Henzler entered the gates of Heaven after a period of illness at Lexington Medical Center. Gladys was born September 7, 1924 in Pelion, South Carolina to Herschel and Mary Wise Shealy.

Gladys was a graduate of Pelion High School. She met and married the love of her life, Richard Henzler, a World War II veteran from Toledo, Ohio in 1941, and they remained married until Richard’s death in 2007. Gladys retired from Pacific Mills in Columbia. She served the Lord as a life-long member of New Hope Baptist Church, Pelion.

Gladys was pre-deceased by her parents, Herschel and Mary; husband, Richard; son, Wallace; brother, Harold/sister-in-law, Frances Shealy; and sister, Vivian/brother-in-law, Norris Hayes. She is survived by daughters, Evelyn (Stanley) Shumpert and Marie (Ken) Whitworth; granddaughters, Arlinda (Robert) Riley, Marilyn Black (Rivers), and Miranda (Jimmy) Orso; grandsons, Travis (Jennifer) Henzler, Justin (Kate) Henzler, Kirk (Beth) Whitworth, and Rich (Anna) Whitworth; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gladys loved Jesus, her family, her church family at New Hope, friends, and “young-uns” (Bree, her dog and June, her cat).

Grandsons and nephews are serving as pallbearers. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to New Hope Baptist Church in Pelion, South Carolina.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church, 249 New Hope Church Road, Pelion, SC 29123 with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
