

Grace Marion Little (Alford) Mellette died at her home March 11, 2022 surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She was the only child of the late Dr. Charles Holmes Little and Mary Elizabeth Child Little, born August 25, 1935 in Long Branch, NJ. She first married Roy S. Alford III (deceased). Together they had two sons, Roy S. Alford IV “Steve” and Charles H. Alford “Charlie”. She later married Russell Dorn Mellette Sr.; together they have celebrated 46 years of marriage.
Mrs. Mellette attended the public schools of Tallahassee, FL, Memphis TN, Tifton, GA and Waycross, GA where she graduated high school. She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA.
Mrs. Mellette worked in secretarial positions for Lexington County, Town of Lexington, as well as the Richland/Lexington Council on Aging. For 16 years, she was the office manager for Russell D. Mellette & Associates, Governmental Affairs Consultants.
She was a charter member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Lexington where she served on the first Mission Board. She was the Altar Guild Director for 12 years and church secretary for two years.
Mrs. Mellette is survived by her husband, Russell D. Mellette, Sr.; sons, Steve Alford (Donna), Charlie Alford (Denise); stepdaughter, Tamara Mellette Edens (John); grandchildren, Jennifer Lever, Sarah Ponds (Ben), Jeremiah Alford (Kaylee), Joshua Diaz, Chloey Perrier (LJ), John John Edens and 7 great grandchildren. Grace is also survived by her beloved longhaired dachshund, Sampson and very special friend, Elizabeth Byrd.
She is predeceased by stepson, Russell D. Mellette, Jr. “Russ”; daughter-in-law, Scott Lawton Alford “Scottie” and grandson, Zachary S. Alford.
A memorial service will be officiated by Father Tom DiMarco Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 403 Park Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends following the service in the Cobb Hall.
