A funeral service for Hardee Trudell Yonce, Jr. will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Providence Lutheran Church, 840 Old Chapin Road, Lexington, SC with interment to follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to service from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Providence Lutheran Church in the sanctuary. Memorials may be made to the church.
H.T. was born February 20, 1937 in West Columbia, SC. He was the son of H. Trudell Yonce, Sr. and Ora Muse Yonce. He was predeceased by his older brother, Monroe Yonce.
H.T. graduated Brookland-Cayce High School where he was a member of the track team where, among other things, he pole vaulted. He was a member of the BC Bearcat football team where he was selected to the City Allstar Team as a tight end in 1956. He attended Clemson University. He was a long-standing IPTAY member and remained faithful to Clemson throughout his life. H.T. served in the South Carolina Air National Guard where he worked on F-84 jets.
H.T. worked for his father, Trudell Yonce, Sr. at Yonce Motors in Columbia, SC as Parts Manager for several years in the 1960s. He then owned and operated Yonce’s Store at Lake Murray for many years throughout the 1970s and 1980s where he made countless lifelong friends. He was employed by Stephryn Industries as Maintenance Manager for many years afterward. Beyond retirement, he stayed busy working part time for AMC Theaters for 20 more years.
H.T. was a kind and friendly man with a huge heart for others. H.T. never met a stranger. No matter where he went, he always would see someone he knew.
H.T. was a long-standing member of Providence Lutheran Church. He loved God, read his bible many times over, and always loved his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cathy; his son, H. Trudell "Ty" Yonce III (Karen); daughter, Tricia Yonce Violette (Erik); grandchildren, Matthew Blackwell, Kelsey Jeffers Murphy (Ray), Noah Trudell Yonce, Jason Blackwell (Taylor), Conner Violette, Erika Violette, and a soon to be great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Nancy Boan, Bonnie Seigle, Kay Yonce; brother-in-law, Wicky Boan and many nieces and nephews that he loved.
