

IRMO – Harry E. Anderson, 82, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Born in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late James H. Anderson, Sr., Mamie S. Anderson and stepson of the late Hagood S. Johnson.
Harry attended Olympia High School, graduating in 1951, lettering in football, basketball and baseball. He coached Dixie Youth Baseball at Belvedere and both little League and Pony League at Trenholm Park in Columbia. He also attended the University of South Carolina and was a lifelong fan of the Fighting Gamecocks. He was a master mason, Pacific Lodge #325, member of the Jamil Shrine Temple, a member of the Gamecock Club and a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Macomb with lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Ed Strickland. Mr. Anderson retired from E. I. DuPont (May Plant) in Lugoff after 34 years of service, at which time he owned and operated Anderson’s Party Shoppe, followed by both Airport and Ballentine Delis with his wife of 58 years, Regena and their children.
He is survived by his wife, Regena Strickland Anderson; sons, Michael Eugene “Mike” (Michelle), Mark Belton Anderson; daughters, Cynthia Lynn “Cindy” Cripps (Tim) and Teresa Louise “Terri” Anderson-Horecny (Joe); grandchildren, Courtney and Anna Cripps, Bryan and Katie Anderson and Allie and Zoie Anderson-Horecny. He is also survived by one great-grandchild, Aiden Cripps and several nieces and nephews. Harry was predeceased by his parents; sister, Iva Mae Priester; brother, James H. Anderson, Jr.; nephew, Melton Priester and niece, Jane Hartgraves.
Funeral services, with Masonic Rites, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, 11733 Broad River Road, Chapin, SC with the Rev. Jason Thomas Antley officiating with the assistance of Rev. Walt Shealy. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations and memorials be made to Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church or the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or to the charity of one’s choice. The Anderson family wishes to thank Brittany Jones, Sue Woodall, Brett DeYoung, Raven Freeman, Kim Small and the caring staff of Heartstrings Hospice for their caring and compassionate assistance.
