Mrs. Moore was born August 7, 1927, in Columbia, S.C. She was the only daughter of Henry Lewis Wolfe and Eunice K. Wolfe. Mrs. Moore lived in Columbia, working as a medical and radiology technician until her marriage to the former Saul Francis Moore Jr., who was enlisted in the U.S. Navy. She enjoyed the life of a "Navy wife," relocating with her husband to deployments in Norfolk, VA.; Newport, RI; Glenview, IL and Patuxent River, MD. After retiring from active duty, Mr. Moore worked for General Electric, which took them to Utica, NY; Whitesboro, NY, Glens Falls, NY and Irmo, SC. When he was transferred to the Daytona Beach, FL office in 1964, the couple moved to Ormond Beach, FL with their three children, Sharon Moore Estes, Beverly Moore, and Wayne Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Moore resided there until they moved to Gilbert, SC, in 1989, where she resided until her death.
Mrs. Moore loved floral arranging and was a member of the Arlington Garden Club when she lived in Florida. She also made her own silk flower arrangements. Mrs. Moore was extremely gifted in stitching and sewing, making numerous quilts, countless counted cross-stitch projects, and clothing for her granddaughter and other relatives and friends. She and Mr. Moore also enjoyed their many trips to their condominium in Beech Mountain, NC, Mrs. Moore far preferring the cool breezes of the Blue Ridge to the humidity of Florida. In Gilbert, she was a member of the American Legion, the Hollow Creek Community Center, and the Beulah United Methodist Church.
A gregarious and sociable woman, Mrs. Moore was well known for her hospitality and the lively parties she hosted throughout her lifetime. Her family and friends always enjoyed her incomparable Southern cooking, from her fried chicken and her biscuits to her chicken 'n dumplings and her peach cobbler. She was just as renowned for her warmth and generosity to others, and she leaves behind the legacy of a life well lived. Mrs. Moore is survived by her brother, Harry Wolfe of Lexington, SC; her daughter, Sharon; her son, Wayne (Ronni); her grandchildren, Sherry Estes Bithell (Tom), Brandon Moore, and Chase Moore; and her great-granddaughter, Alexandra Bithell; as well as by her four nephews, Harry Wolfe Jr., John Wolfe, Kent Wolfe, and Joe Wolfe. She was predeceased by her husband, Saul; her daughter, Beverly; and her sister-in-law, Myra Wolfe. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her long time caregivers, Cherry Johnson and Pete Brown. We know that she has been reunited with her husband, her daughter, and so many others she had to say goodbye to, but those she has left behind will miss her terribly. We love you, Granny.
