

A resident of Lexington, South Carolina, since 1980, Gene built a life centered around family, friends, and hard work. He was a deeply loving husband to his wife, Nancy Gosnell, and a proud father to his children, Dori Polk (Roy Polk) and Chuck Gosnell (Grace Gosnell). His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Rachel West, Ian Gosnell, Aaron Gosnell, Elizabeth Lawhon (Jeremy Lawhon), and Phillip Polk (Anne-Marie Polk) and their children: Jonah, Kylie, Jackson, Abel, Levi, Theo, Elijah, and Asher. He was predeceased by a grandson, Michael West.
Gene served his country with honor for more than 27 years. He began his military journey in the South Carolina National Guard (January 1952–August 1954), continued in the United States Navy (September 1954–September 1958), and completed his distinguished career in the United States Air Force (October 1958–May 1979). Following his military career, he worked as an Electrical Engineer, spending most of his time with Blanchard Machinery.
Known as an exceptional electrician, a steadfast leader, and a devoted friend, Gene was a rock to all who knew him. His wisdom, strength, and unwavering loyalty made him a pillar in every community he touched. He loved his family deeply and lived a life defined by integrity, generosity, and quiet courage.
He will be remembered with profound love and gratitude.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on July 17, 2026 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm.
