James "Michael" Carter, 46, passed away on April 30, 2025, in Lexington, South Carolina. Born on December 20, 1978, in Alma, Georgia, he carried with him the warmth and spirit of his hometown throughout his life.

Michael was a man known for his big heart and unwavering willingness to lend a hand. His love for family and friends was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a devoted husband to Maria Metcalf and a proud father and grandfather whose presence brought joy and strength to those around him.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Tyler Carter, Levi Carter, Elijah Carter, Troy Carter, and Hunter Nipper; as well as his stepchildren: Kaitlyn Boyce, Brendon Metcalf, Michael Metcalf, and Gage Lease. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Paige Marie Boyce, Lilly Taylor Baker, Liam Lease, and Noah Lease.

Michael is also survived by his father, James Marlon Carter and stepmother, Shirly Carter; brothers, Christopher Carter (Ciara), Casey Carter; sisters, Somer Kerns (Bryant) of Hazlehurst, Georgia and Elizabeth Ann Carter; brother, Lance Nipper; and maternal grandmother, Audrey Spell of Alma, GA. He leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews from Alma and Blackshear, Georgia who held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lisa Spell Nipper; stepfather, Bobby Nipper; son, Tristen Carter of Blackshear, Georgia; brother, Tyler Carter; paternal grandparents, Marlon Dickson Carter and Fannie Elizabeth Graham “Polly” Carter of Alma; and maternal grandfather, Albert Spell.

Michael’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
