

WEST COLUMBIA - James Timothy Green, Sr., 78, of West Columbia, SC, died Friday, May 6, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, with Pastor John Hoppe and Reverend Sherrill Green officiating. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at the funeral home.
Born in Honea Path, SC, he was the eldest son of the late Rev. James Harley and Ruth Lyda Green. Affectionately known as “Tim”, “Jim”, “Jolly”, “Chief”, "Dad", or "Pop", he served twenty-two years in the U.S. Air Force. His service in defense of our country included tours of duty in North Africa, Alaska, and Vietnam that required extended absences from his family. His awards included two Presidential Citations, the USAF Commendation Medal, and the Bronze Star. After retiring from the USAF, he joined the Fort Jackson Fire Department as a civilian firefighter. During his twenty year civilian career, he continued to distinguish himself and retired as Fire Chief. He was a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge #152 and a member of Calvary Chapel of Lexington.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-two years, Jane Marie; his brother, Gordon; and sister, Esther. He is survived by three sisters; Doris, Rachel (Gerald), and Emily; two brothers, Roger (Pat) and Sherrill (Gail); two sons, James Jr. (Jean) and William (Becka); three daughters, Teresa, Deborah (Hank), and Elizabeth; thirteen grandchildren, Tiffany, Tonya (Michael), Wade (Katherine), Heather (Seth), William Jr., Andrew, Katherine, Aaron (Hannah), Austin, Adam, Joy, Kimberly, and Hannah; and three great-grandchildren, Damian, Gabriel, and Gladys.
