James Leroy Summers (Jim), born October 29th of 1940, peacefully passed in his sleep and made his way to his heavenly home on August 8th, 2025 at the age of 84. He is survived by his son, Jason Summers; his siblings, Mary Jane Schneider, Elizabeth Green, and William Summers; his grandchildren, Jayden Summers, Jenna Summers, Christopher Libert, and Skylar Summers; his great-grandchildren, Aria Libert and Haven Libert; his extended family, in his own words, Rhonda Marsh, Deloris Green and Christian Marsh.
He was the husband of his beloved late wife, Roberta Vukas Summers; the father of his late son, Dean Summers; as well as the sibling of the late Robert Summers.
Jim was born in the city of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, to the late Betty and Joe Summers. Jim would often talk about his father’s hard work in the steel mills as well as him and his mother having a very emotionally close relationship. Jim came from very humble beginnings, and as a teenager he began to play sports, which he was a natural at. He quickly made it to playing All Stars in football as well as basketball, even participating in Allstate State Champion Football, an accomplishment he was extremely proud of. As he grew into adulthood, he was active in the military building tanks, after he was honorably discharged, he achieved his bachelor’s in engineering, and continued to create a successful self-made business, Steel Services.
Jim always absolutely loved sports, specifically football and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He always enjoyed reminiscing on his memories and achievements in his experience in football. He enjoyed talking about the travels he made and places he saw with his wife and children. One of the most memorable things about James is his love for good food. He absolutely loved a good meal and trying out new food places, he'd never say no to a plate. Another thing that never faded was his love for music, including Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alan Jackson, all types of classic rock, Fleetwood Mac, and even Adele. He was an avid enjoyer of diversity.
James loved and was deeply loved by multiple people, his family, his next door neighbors, his associates, his friends, especially his late best friend, Bob Elliott. He will be dearly missed and always remembered.
“Remember when
We said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when”
- Alan Jackson, Remember When, his favorite song.
