Janelle Cecil Powell, 89, passed away on September 8, 2026. Born June 26, 1937, she will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection for a life marked by steady devotion, quiet strength, and a faithful, compassionate spirit.
Janelle graduated from Lexington High School and went on to build a long and distinguished career with Bell South. Over 30 years in management, she exemplified the dignity of hard work and the reliability that others came to count on—serving with consistency, care, and an unwavering sense of responsibility.
Janelle was the daughter of James Cecil Sox and Verda Kaminer Sox. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Claude Powell, Jr., with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. She is survived by her children, Terri Robey (David) and Barry Powell, Sr. (Terri); and by her grandchildren, Jenny Kronner (Shawn), James Robey (Kayley), David Robey (Cameron), Jacquelyn Hehir (Robert), Barry Keith Powell Jr. (Ashley) and Kevin Allen Powell (Mary Beth).
In the daily rhythms of home, Janelle’s kindness and caring nature were evident in the ways she nurtured others and took pride in the beauty around her. She found joy in gardening and cooking, kept an immaculate yard, and treasured watching sunsets at the lake—simple moments that reflected a life attentive to grace, order, and quiet gratitude.
The family extends sincere appreciation to her neighbors, Ray and Margie Adkins, for checking in and helping out.
A Graveside Service will be held at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072, on September 11, 2026, at 11:00 am.
