
LEXINGTON – A memorial service for Janet Elizabeth Knapp, 87, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Trinity United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1201 Mohawk Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169 or Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North Street, Chardon, Oh 44024 or First Congregational Church, 220 S. Main Street, Lombard IL 60148.
Mrs. Knapp was born April 18, 1924 in Lakewood, Ohio and passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011. She was a daughter of the late Herbert Birch Kingston and Besse Nutting Kingston. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir. She loved music and also sang in the Painesville, Ohio women’s chorus and the Lexington Chorus. She loved children and she served as a leader in both local and state PTA, Cub Scouts, and Sunday school. Her Family was very important and she kept the family genealogy and maintained contact with all her family through cards and phone calls. She was proud of her father who started Sweetest Day and was responsible for Hallmark including a brief history of the day on the back of their Sweetest Day cards.
Mrs. Knapp is survived by her sons, Hugh Knapp, Jr. (Sarah) of Freeport, IL, Michael J. Knapp (Shirley) of Anthem, AZ; daughter Laurie A. Knapp of Lexington; grandchildren, Christopher Knapp (Laura) of Plainville, CT, Sally Noble (Dan) of Bolingbrook, IL, Jason Knapp (Kelly) of McConnell, IL, Matthew Speer (Paige) of Sioux Falls, SD, Vanessa Hughes (Ryan) of Freeport, IL, and Kera Johnson of Denver, CO; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Muriel Vosburgh; brother, Lawrence Kingston; nephew, Lee Kingston; and her husband, Hugh Knapp, Sr.
