Janice Rosson Brewton

Janice Rosson Brewton passed away April 18, 2022. Janice was born in Augusta, Georgia on March 14, 1935 to the late Raiford Patrick Rosson, Sr. and Laura Pearce Murphy Rosson. She attended North Augusta High School and Columbia College.

Janice began her career as a home economics teacher and then she was a full-time substitute teacher at Strom Thurmond High School. She retired as a 5th grade teacher at Seven Oaks Elementary School. Janice has been a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church since 1971. She was active in her church's Joy Sunday school class and her alma mater's Columbia College Alumnae Association. Janice's children remember her as a loving mother, exceptional cook, and gifted homemaker.

Janice is predeceased by her mother, Laura Pearce Murphy Rosson; father, Raiford Patrick Rosson, Sr.; stepmother, Elizabeth Winter Verdery Rosson; her husband, James Wallace Brewton, Jr. and a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Brewton Sharpless.

She is survived by brother, Raiford Patrick Rosson, Jr. (Brenda); sister, Adele Rosson Morgan (Bob); son, James “Jimmy” W. Brewton, III (Lisa); daughter, Laura Anne Brewton Richardson; six grandchildren, James “Jay” W. Brewton, IV (Rebekah), Joshua Davis Brewton (Erin), John “Brett” Brewton Richardson, Julia Richardson, Sarah Taylor Sharpless North (Luke) and Gary Neal Sharpless, Jr. (Jesse) and two new great grandsons, Davis Green Brewton and Benson James Brewton.

The family will receive friends in the atrium of St. Andrews Baptist Church from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022. Services will be held that same day at St. Andrews Baptist Church with Dr. Ronald Dee Vaughan officiating at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Lawtonville Cemetery in Estill, SC at 3:00 p.m.
