It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jasper “Jack” Newton Watson, Jr. on January 26, 2023. Jasper was born in Spartanburg, SC on February 5, 1934, and lived a long and fulfilling life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Jack had a passion for helping others through his work as an insurance claims adjuster, insurance agent, and Administrative Assistant for US Congressman Tom S. Gettys. His life of service and helping others was also manifested through his hobbies of amateur radio, painting, photography, and computers. Jack was a faithful member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church and active resident of the Lowman Home of Chapin, SC.
Jasper was preceded in death by his wife; Mary Lillian Morgan Watson. They were married for 57 years before her passing in 2011. He is survived by his three children, Rebecca Watson Renner (Rick), Dr. Jack N. Watson, III (Leslie), and Thomas M. Watson, and his grandchildren, Morgan Watson, Shana Watson, Richard Renner, Katie Watson Schermbeck (Kyle), Matthew Watson (Meghan), 1st Lt. Christopher Watson (Claire), Elena Watson, and Hannah Watson, and his great grandchildren, Maya Watson and Zelda Zimmerman.
A private family memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 29 at the Chapel of The Heritage at Lowman, Chapin, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Lutheran Homes of South Carolina Foundation, Riverland Hills Baptist Church or the charity of your choice in Jasper's name.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of the Lowman Home for creating a loving and caring community that Jack experienced with great joy. We also express our deepest appreciation to our lifelong family and friends who have been an inspiration, support, and a blessing to the entire Watson family.
Jasper will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He will forever be in our hearts.
