LEXINGTON - John E. Brantley, 69, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 29, 2018. He was born August 10, 1949 in Columbia, SC. He graduated from AC Flora High School, Spartanburg Methodist College and the University of South Carolina. John worked for many years in pharmaceutical and medical equipment sales.
John retired from the South Carolina Air National Guard. He loved life to the fullest and was passionate about his family, friends, faith and his church. He was an active and dedicated member of the St. David Lutheran Church in West Columbia where he served as a Sunday school teacher, church council member, youth leader and secretary of Lutheran Men in Mission. John cared deeply about mission programs and service to others. He went to Tanzania in 2014 on a safe water mission and 2016 for Evangelism.
He is survived by his wife, Lynette Rikard Brantley; children, Brittany (Stephen) Perry, Morgan Backman, Barrett (David) Myers and Jason Brantley; grandchildren, Brooke, Ben and Logan Perry and Madison Myers; siblings, Calvin (Martha) Brantley, Tommy Brantley, Jane (Ted) Gantt; brother-in-law, Robert Rikard and mother-in-law, Betty Rikard. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Dabbs Brantley Keller; father, Oscar Calvin Brantley; step-father, Ted P. Keller and sister-in-law, Dale Rikard.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2018, with visitation one hour prior to the service at St. David Lutheran Church, 132 St. David Church Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. Interment will be held in the church cemetery.
