Born in Columbia, SC on June 29, 1946, he was one of two children of John Elton McCracken and Mary Eugenia Scoggins McCracken. He is lovingly survived by his brother, Donald Lee McCracken; his nephew, Shawn Lee Lunceford; his uncle, Irwin Gene Scoggins; and his life partner, John Christopher Sligar. For most of his career, he worked as a nurse, mostly in a travel nurse capacity. He also had an early career in hairdressing and a later career in home building and project management.
He was very religious, read his bible daily, and attended church whenever he was able.
