
LEXINGTON- Funeral Services for John Dial Smith, Sr., 85, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Pond Branch United Methodist Church with interment in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lexington with Masonic rites at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to Pond Branch United Methodist Church, 1908 Pond Branch Road, Gilbert, SC 29054 or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1130 St. Peter’s Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
Mr. Smith was born on April 10, 1926 in Lexington County and passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2011. He was a son of the late Jonas Letroy Smith and Sue D. Sharpe Smith. He served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Pond Branch United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 7, Lexington VFW, Member of DAV and a Mason.
Mr. Smith is survived by his sons, John Dial, Jr. “Johnny” and wife, Sherry Smith of Columbia, W. Jekyll Smith of Lexington; three grandchildren, Lybie, Abby and Samuel; numerous nieces and nephews and brother, Homer Landis Smith of Lexington. He was predeceased by his wife, Novis H. Smith and sister, Grace Smith Hicks. A special thank you to doctors, staff, Warriors Walk at the VA Hospital, Billy Bell and Ida Hammond.
