John Lanier Sprawls Jr.

John graduated from Irmo High School in 1980, and earned a degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina. He later received a degree in Computer Networking from Midland Technical College. He was a graduate of the Air Force Security Forces Academy, and served in both the South Carolina Air National Guard and Army National Guard.

His law enforcement career included the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Department of Corrections, and Columbia Police Department. He also worked in Information Technology Security for AgFirst Bank, Wilbur Smith Associates, and SCANA Corporation.

John was an Eagle Scout and a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts. He was a former member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge. John enjoyed music, photography, diving, and helping others with technology. He loved his dogs and was an avid Gamecock fan.

John is survived by his mother; his daughter, Ashley Sprawls Jackson; his son, Robert Martin Sprawls; and his brother, Patrick W. Sprawls. He was predeceased by his father and his sister, Dr. Rahnda Sprawls Ford.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 11:00 am at Perry Baptist Church Cemetery, 133 Roberts Street West, Perry, SC 29137.
