Joselyn was a bright and intelligent girl who was beloved by her friends and family. She was a joy to be around and never met a stranger. She was a dedicated student of Lexington School District One and graduated in the top 10% of her class from Gilbert High School in June 2019. In her time at GHS, she competed in soccer and cross-country as a member of her high school’s teams.
Joselyn was nearing the end of her first semester at USC Beaufort, where she was studying engineering in hopes of being an architect. Joselyn was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Columbia. She served the Catholic Church as a radio host on Revive.fm, a statewide, Spanish-language radio station broadcasted by the Diocese of Charleston.
Joselyn leaves behind a loving family, including her mother, Norma Gonzalez; father, Roberto Gonzalez; younger sister, Valerie Gonzalez; older sister, Brenda Gonzalez de Esquivel; brother-in-law, Israel, and nephew, Franco. She is grieved by her maternal grandparents, Augustina Martinez Angeles and the late Victor Gonzalez, and her paternal grandparents, Hilda Gonzalez Torres and Aurelio Vidal Gonzalez. The love of the Gonzalez Mata family and the Martinez Angeles family is with her as well. She also leaves behind her loving boyfriend, Kevin Alvarez and her devoted church family.
The Rosary will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Columbia, SC. Joselyn was one of my best friends at USCB. We met each other unexpectedly on the second day of being on campus. Quickly, Joselyn became a friend who I could always trust and rely on. While despite only meeting Joselyn a few months ago, I feel extremely privileged that God gave me the opportunity to be a part of her life. Thank you Joselyn for being a great friend. Your constant kindness, optimism, and happiness will never be forgotten. I will always remember you. Thank you so much for all the memories.

Joselyn, she was an amazing and outgoing woman. She always made me smile when she was in my presence. I'm honored that she was on the same cross country team that I ran on, and I am honored to always call her a teammate and a friend. She will always be close to my heart, just as she is to so many people. I look forward to honoring the memory of her by running the FootLocker South Regional Race on the 30th of this month in Charlotte, NC. You'll be missed, but never forgotten, my friend

I remember the first time we introduced each other, so vividly. We were on a family friend camping trip at adventure world. Some friends and I went into your cabin because you wanted to show us the inside. You even asked if we wanted to have a sleepover that night in the loft. I didn’t even know you at that second. You introduced yourself to me, but I already knew who you were because your friends would always bring up memories about you. I told you my name and you said it was pretty. It was funny, because you accidentally kept calling me Pamela. Ever since that day and throughout the years, I noticed I always saw you at parties and family gatherings. You’d talk to everyone and made people that you didn’t know, feel like they were friends with you for years. Your positivity radiated to each person you talked to. Your smile and laugh were so contagious. I won’t ever forget that. I’ll always remember the countless manhunt and hide-and-seek games at every party. I’ll remember listening to your favorite music in the car, the time you said you were moving to Gilbert, or even when we thought there was a ghost in your backyard. Joselyn, I know we weren’t super close, but you felt like a friend I could always talk to about anything. I am beyond blessed I had the opportunity to know you. You have impacted so many lives in such a positive way. And now you’re watching over us. It still doesn’t seem real. It won’t ever feel the same. But I know you’re still living through our hearts, and that God is taking good care of you in heaven. Rest easy Joselyn.

Julia

I didn’t know Joselyn or her family I think I might have seen her around maybe at a cross country meet. I heard about her passing through Father Rodolfo as he asked us to pray for her and her family and I went home thinking wow I wonder who she was. When I got home I started to see her memories being posted on people’s stories and It just hit me as to how she lit up a lot of peoples lives. I didn’t even know her but her passing has touched me in a way that is very meaningful. It has allowed me to see that we can’t take life for granted. My prayers and condolences are with her family and friends. Continue living for her and never forget her. Stay strong Gonzalez family and friends. 🙏🏼

I left Gilbert in 2014 and I definitely remember Joselyn. She was so outgoing and goofy and could put a smile on anyone’s face. We didn’t have very many memories together but here’s a picture of her being her beautiful self. Rest easy sweetheart ❤️

Joselyn you made a big impact in the lives of many, including mine. I will never forget the smile you carried with you everywhere. You had this happiness that glowed from within you. I always enjoyed your sense of humor, you had the ability to make anyone who was having a bad day feel better. I would always enjoy hearing you share with us in comunidad. When you talked about your beliefs you would speak with so much passion. I’ve never met someone as humble as you. You were kind to everyone and never bothered to gossip about others. I’m missing you more everyday. Your loss leaves an emptiness in my heart, but I know that God chose you because heaven needed an angel. My prayers go to your family. I pray that God guides them and continues to give them strength to understand his plans. You will continue to be with us forever and always.

I never knew Joselyn Gonzalez. I had known about her through friends but I never actually knew her. Till recently I had learned about her passing. I looked on at peoples stories and how many memories they shared with her. It wasn’t hard to tell that she was a genuine person that brought joy and laughter wherever she went. My heart ached and the thought of how her heartbroken her friends and family were. My prayers will always go to her family and close ones. As do my condolences. She will always live through those memories so hold on to them , cherish them , cause in a way she’ll always be with us. “We honor the dead by living for them” the meaning behind that is that we continue chasing our dreams , we accomplish our own goals cause it’s what they would’ve wanted. A loss like this will hurt for a while but through time it’ll get better and though their will come times when your heart aches at the of thought Joselyn. All everyone will remember will be the good times. She’s in a better place now and will always live through our hearts. Rest Easy Stranger 🕊❤️

Joselyn you were always happy and smiling, you were always one of the sweetest people I have Ever known. I know we might not have been super best friends but being on the cross country and soccer team with you I got to know you, and losing such a sweet loving girl has been one of the hardest things I have been through. I remember all the dance party’s we had in the locker room, the bus, and car rides, all the jokes we cracked and all of the memory’s we made together. You have touched so many hearts and lives and we truly miss you. You are truly amazing, and I know your running with Jesus. Rest easy sweet girl, We Love You.

Your smile, laugh, and kind heart will always be something I will forever carry with me. Ten years of happiness and laughs were amazing with you. I will always remember the day we met when I was 8 years old... we were so shy to talk to each other... little did we know that we would be like sisters, growing up together and making amazing memories. Cabin trips, camping trips, and family gatherings will never be the same, but I know you will still be with us spiritually. Thank you for being my sister, my friend, my family. It’s difficult knowing that you left us on this Earth, but God knows that you have completed your mission and deserved to be in heaven with him. I hope you’re playing lots of soccer up in heaven. I can’t wait to see you again. My kids will hear stories about you and learn from you. I love you Joselyn. Until I see you again.

there are no words to express how important Joselyn meant to me. I remember meeting her for the first time and her coming up to me and saying hi. She was one of my close friends in middle school. She always had the brightest smile on her face, in my years of knowing her I never saw her mad at anybody. She was always so bright, she would walk into the room and the room would brighten up. Both of my parents loved hearing the smart ideas and thoughts she always had. I think in my lifetime I have never met some one as smart, funny and fun to hang around. Joselyn affected the lives of many but she will forever live in our hearts. Love you Joselyn.

There is so much that I would like to say, but I know that words could never express how sorry I am for your loss. There isn't much that I can offer, only my tears and my prayers. I now imagine Joselyn in heaven, bombarding God with her questions like she used to do at the radio. We used to laugh so much and sometimes our shows were a mess, but in the middle of all that, we had some serious talks about faith, the youth and society. She was passionate about social justice, she wanted to talk about gun violence at the schools, she wanted to talk about politics; she was challenging! Her memory will stay with me for the rest of my life. I will continue to pray for healing and comfort for the family and for our entire community.
