He was born the third child of Marjorie H. and Rudolph Franklin Sharpe at Columbia Hospital in Columbia, SC. Julian grew up in Lexington with a loving family and had many lifelong friends. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church where he served as acolyte and member of the Boy Scout troop. He was a faithful church member at the time of his death.
Julian attended Lexington schools and graduated in 1972 from Lexington High School. He went on to Midlands Technical College and obtained his degree. Afterwards, he became an appraiser with Lexington County and later went on to start his own appraisal firm in his hometown. Julian was a well respected and trusted appraiser and an expert on homes on Lake Murray.
Julian had a love of life. He enjoyed cars, boating, deep sea fishing, deer hunting and his beloved Clemson Tigers. He played football at Lexington High, played softball on numerous teams, and taught himself how to play golf later in life. He was a member of the Ponderosa Country Club and a member of the Willingham Plantation Hunt Club, the Wacky Do Hunt Club and the North Edisto Hunting Club.
Julian was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie and Cooter Sharpe and his nephew, Stephen R. Sharpe. He is survived by his loving life partner, Cathy Mathias of Lexington, SC and his only child, Nora Sharpe of Philadelphia, PA. He also leaves behind a sister, Robin Leverton of Beaufort, SC; his brother, Rhett Sharpe of Gilbert, SC and sister, Rynn Herndon (Mike) of Columbia, SC. He has a nephew, Robbie Chandler (Julia) of Winston-Salem, NC and a niece, Healy Akridge (Stephen) of Greenville, SC. He also leaves behind his loving dog, Marissa.
The family would like to thank Julian’s doctors, nurses, and his care team at Mission Hospital ICU Trauma Unit for the care they gave to him and to Cathy during his stay there.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to be sent to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 119 North Church Street , Lexington, SC 29072 or on their website at sslc.org.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
