Born in Columbia, South Carolina on September 12, 1956 to the late Daniel Porter Hawks and Nellie Maye Carter Hawks. She immediately brought joy and laughter into the world. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Columbia, South Carolina.
She was married to love of her life, Steve L. Madison, on April 16, 1975 and took great pride in raising her son, Daniel and daughter, Alana. She was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. She was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
She always made her family and friends welcome in her home and enjoyed trips to the beach and camping at Lake Murray. In her later years, she became an active member of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.
She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Porter Hawks and her mother, Nellie Maye Carter Hawks; sister, Evangeline Hawks McDowell and brothers, Virgil Hawks, Deron Hawks and James Hawks.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Steve L. Madison of Lexington; son, Daniel (Jolene) Madison of Spartanburg and daughter, Alana (Robert) Schaeffer of Lexington; four grandchildren, Jack Madison and Luke Madison of Spartanburg, JonCarl Gantt and Jordan Taylor of Lexington; two great grandsons, Logan Dutton and Michael Dutton of Lexington; two sisters, Bobbi Hawks and Frances Browder of Columbia and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to thank the entire team of hospice caregivers, nurses and other who helped to make her final weeks peaceful.

Services will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church, located at 4238 Augusta Road, Lexington, South Carolina on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 11:00 am. The family will receive family and friends prior to the service.
