LEXINGTON - Kenneth “Ken” James Muller, of Lexington, South Carolina, succumbed to pancreatic cancer at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.
Kenneth was born October 15, 1938 in Lafitte, Louisiana to Walter and Willie Pearl (Lamb) Muller. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1955 and is a Graduate of Armstrong State University in Georgia. On July 7, 1959 he married the love of his life, the former Jacqueline Browning in Brunswick, Georgia. Kenneth proudly serviced his county for 30 years in the US Navy and was the Navy’s last living Blimp Crew Member. Kenneth was chosen as a Pall Bearer for General McArthur; he was in the helicopter group servicing the Mercury Space Flights which rescued astronaut Virgil “Gus” Grissom, but saw the Liberty Bell 7 capsule sink to the bottom of the Atlantic in 1961; he monitored Submarines from the air all around the world; he trained fleet cadets in Guantanamo Bay Cuba; and he was one of the top seeded tennis players in the US Navy…a short list of his many military accomplishments. After Kenneth retired from the military he then went on to teach Middle School Math/Science at Camden Middle School for 13 years and put his tennis skills to work by coaching the school’s tennis team in Kingsland, Georgia. When Kenneth “finally” retired, he spent time indulging Jacqueline and himself in their passion for motorcycles and the thrill of the ride, moved to be closer to his grandchildren and went on several memorable family vacations with all of them. Kenneth treasured and enjoyed spending time with his adoring grandchildren and he was a loving, involved and caring husband, father and grandfather. Kenneth is survived by his wife Jacqueline; daughter, Rhonda Porth; brother, Walter Muller; sister, Billie Jo Walker; grandchildren, Jason Kay, Marcus Edward, Madalynn Wise, Patty Wise, Shelby Wise, Jacqueline Bonds and Melissa and Eric Muller. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly D. Bonds and son Kenneth J. Muller. Funeral services for Kenneth will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington, South Carolina on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. Pastor Steve Ramirez will be officiating.
