A graduate of Euclid High School in Cleveland, Ohio in 1958, Linda excelled in music, theater, and student government. She later attended the University of Ohio, participating in the Wesley Players music ensemble and graduating with a Master’s in Education in 1962. She taught in schools in Cleveland and Willoughby before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Richard Hauenstein, and moving to Columbia, SC in 1969. She continued teaching at Timmerman School in Forest Acres and then finally at Dent Middle School in Richland where she taught 8th grade history and mastered the art of the attention-grabbing finger snap. In all, her teaching career spanned 33 years and she remained a beloved, devoted teacher. During that time, she loved and served her family, too, a constant companion to her husband and an unfailing source of support for her extended family, whether at home or stationed overseas.
Upon retiring, Linda devoted herself fulltime to travel and the arts, especially her life-long passion for music, both piano and organ. Her love of music led her to a second family, whom she loved dearly, joining the Sounds of Music headed by Mack and Keri Bayne. She played and traveled and enjoyed performing in different music conferences amidst good company.
Linda is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Roy Hauenstein; her parents, Louis and Virginia Ress; her sister, Karen Stetina (Bill) and her nephew, Daryl Stetina. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Janet Mary Lee; niece, Dawn Stetina-Ferren; grandchildren, Jennifer and Andrew Jacobs and great-grandchildren, Olivia and Maddie Jacobs.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude for the unwavering support and love of Mack and Keri Bayne, their daughter Maddie and the entire music family of Sounds of Music.
