
LEXINGTON – Margaret Wages Corley, born in Columbia on July 23, 1923 to Blanche Greene and Lonnie Williams Wages, died peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Harbor Chase Memory Care with her daughters Lenna Corley Young and Cindy Corley Waters at her side.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Wilbur L. Corley. They made their home in Lexington. Prior to her move to HarborChase, Margaret was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church for over 50 years serving as a Sunday School teacher for adults and youth, youth group leader, Lutheran Church Women’s leader and on the visitation committee. Margaret was a proud employee of Southern Bell/BellSouth for over 38 years before retiring after which she enjoyed participating in the Pioneers Club. Margaret and Wilbur partnered in small farming and were known for their abundant crops of okra and silver queen corn. Throughout their lives, they were blessed with many friends and family members who shared their love of farming, canning and preserving, travel and Clemson football.
In addition to her daughters and sons-in-law, Colonel (Retired) Lance and Lenna Young of Greenville, SC and Jim and Cindy Waters of Advance, NC, Margaret is survived by her four grandchildren upon whom she shamelessly lavished love and support; Rose (Brad) Stephens of Aiken, SC, and recently born great grandson Samuel Riley; Margaret Anne (Ryan) Dickerman of Winston-Salem, NC; Michael James Waters and Caroline Corley Waters of Advance, NC.
Margaret is also survived by her sister Violet (Charlie) Fetner of Columbia. She was predeceased by her sisters, Garnetta Shealy and Dorothy Black, and her brother Lonnie Williams Wages, Jr. Margaret was also predeceased by her sister-in-law, Ellen Corley, who Margaret, Wilbur, and their daughters cared for throughout Ellen’s life.
The family will host visitation at Margaret and Wilbur’s home at 253 Corley Mill Road on Saturday evening, April 20, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral will be held Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be offered to Zion Lutheran Church, 226 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
Lenna and Cindy are deeply appreciative of the love and care provided to their mother over the past five years by the staff at HarborChase of Columbia.
