Born in Springfield, MA, he was the son of Jean Hurtle and Robert Whitney. He was an accomplished veteran of the United States Army for over 20 years, who fought valiantly in the Vietnam War. He was employed by Built Rite Garage Doors up until his retirement as a Senior Garage Door Installer. He was an avid collector of firearms that he and his granddaughter enjoyed building and shooting together. He also took great pride in a vast coin collection and loved to watch his Nascar races and football games.
He will always be remembered as a loving son, spouse, and grandfather who cared deeply for his family. Mark was the man you could always count on, and he never took anything too seriously. He always loved to poke fun and make jokes to keep everyone smiling; he especially enjoyed ruffling a few feathers but it was always in good fun.
He is survived by his life partner, Edith Reddinger; mother, Jean Hurtle and granddaughters, Angela and Erica Glenn. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Whitney.
In accordance with Mark’s wishes, there will not be a formal memorial service and his family only asks that everyone lift up their thoughts and prayers to be with them through this difficult time.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.caughmanlexington.com for the Whitney family.
