WEST COLUMBIA - Mary Jessica Harter, 64, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Born on September 20, 1947 in Fairfax, SC, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Lee Harter, Jr. and Mary “Nick” Sanders Harter. Private services will be held at a later date. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ms. Harter was a member of First Baptist Church in Fairfax, SC. She earned her Master’s degree from the University of South Carolina. She was a librarian, artist and painter. Her work has been on display at the State Art Museum.
Ms. Harter is survived by her sisters, Cleo Harter Amos of Columbia, Oranne Harter Brunson of Fairfax, SC and nieces and nephews.
